Veedersburg—Rev. Oliver W. McGaughey, 76, died at his home in Veedersburg Tuesday afternoon at 3 o’clock. He became suddenly ill at noon with acute indigestion while preparing to conduct funeral services for Edward Janeway.

Born Dec. 20, 1870 near Russellville, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob McGaughey. He had lived in the Veedersburg area for 45 years, practicing law and preaching in the various Christian Churches in the vicinity. At the time of his death, he was serving pulpits in the Scotts Prairie and Hickman Heights Christian Churches.

A graduate of Wabash College with the class of 1899, he took special work at Butler and Northwestern Universities. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Veedersburg and had served nine years as worthy patron of Valetta Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. He was a member of the Bar Association and had been active in the Republican party. A former mayor of Veedersburg, he also had served in the Indiana State Legislature and as a member of the local school board.

He served as the first chairman of the Fountain County Ration Board during the war and later a chief clerk of the board.

The deceased first married Alberta Booe and Sept. 17, 1911, he married Ardela Inlow, who survives.

Surviving besides the widow are two sons, Gilbert of Compton, Calif., and John Max, at home; a daughter, Martha, at home; a brother, G. S. McGaughey of Roachdale; and a sister, Mrs. Minnie Call, also of Roachdale.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at the Christian Church in Veedersburg. Rev. Harry Davis of Clermont will be assisted by Rev. Fred Chelan of Veedersburg and burial will be made in Rockfield Cemetery. The body will remain at the Parham Funeral Home in Veedersburg until the hour of the funeral. – S&E
