MELVINA McFERRIN was born in Parke Co., Ind., March 25, 1865 and died March 12, 1914. Had she lived until the 25th of this month she would have been 49 years old. She was happily married to Albert McFerrin December 17, 1882. In 1887 in the month of August they moved from West Union to Tangier. Nearly all that married life has been lived here. Eight children have blest this union, and called her “Mother.” Minor, a little son, died June 20, 1889. Little Cathaline died August 7, 1907. The husband and remaining children were at the bedside when the Messenger came. She told them good-by and peacefully fell asleep, to waken in that “Heaven of Rest whence comes no sad farewells.” Mrs. McFerrin was a member of the Baptist church and had filled various offices with credit in the Woman’s Relief Corps and the Pythian Sisters, also a member of the Ben Hur Lodge. While she was loved by the members of her church and the orders to which she belonged, and by her neighbors and many friends, and will be sadly missed by them. No one will miss her so much as the home circle, for she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. For some time before her health began to decline, she had devoted much of her time to little Sam, who is sorely afflicted and so much needed a mother’s care. All during her sickness she repeatedly asked the family to be good and to be kind and good to Sam. She was of a kind, cheery, disposition and ready to help in every time of need. She leaves to mourn her loss a devoted husband, six children: Charles of Sullivan, Illinois, Mrs. Leona Grimes of Tangier, Mrs. Robert Richard of Terre Haute, Miss Letha, Byron and Sam at home; three grand children, Mikie and Mellie Grimes and Hewell McFerrin, with other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held at 11 o’clock Saturday, conducted by Rev. Airhart. -S
