COVINGTON - Mrs. Lillie E. McElwee, age 88, of 101 Ninth St., Covington, died unexpectedly at 10:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, at her home. Authorities reported she had died in her sleep and was found Friday by a neighbor. Mrs. McElwee was born Aug. 10, 1879, in Baron County, Wis., the daughter of William and Laura Espich. She was married in 1899 to Charles McElwee, who died in 1955. She was a member of the 7th Street Church of Christ in Covington. She had resided in Covington for 20 years and formerly resided in Tangier. Surviving are: one daughter, Mrs. Minnie Nichols of Gary; 7 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Fred, and one daughter, Mrs. Edith Woodrow. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the 7th Street Church of Christ. The Rev. Alfred Shannon officiated and burial was in the Tangier Cemetery. The Hegg Funeral Home of Covington was in charge of arrangements. - jlr
