VEEDERSBURG - John W. McElwee, 93, Veedersburg, a retired farmer, died Wednesday in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Danville, Ill. He had been ill for one week and hospitalized for one day. He was a member of Freedom Christian Church near Wallace. Born, Jan. 6, 1884, at Covington, he was married Jan. 24, 1909, at Wallace to Jennie Cory. She died in 1970. Survivors include a son, Harold W. of Veedersburg; a daughter, Mrs. Mildred Livingston of Waynetown; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in DeVerter Funeral Home at Covington with the Rev. Robert Karn officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery at Covington. Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p.m. Friday. - jlr
