John A. McElwee, 77, died at his home at Covington at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon following a long period of poor health, at the age of 77 years, 10 months and 16 days. Death was brought on by a complication of diseases. He was born in Harrisburg, Pa., Aug 8 1850, the son of Matthew M. and Sarah Huff McElwee. He had lived in Fountain county practically all his life and was a member of the Freedom Christian church. He is survived by three half brothers, David McElwee of Hillsboro, and Albert and Oscar McElwee of Veedersburg; two half sisters, Mrs. John Davis of Wallace and Mrs. James Cartwright of Veedersburg. The body was taken to the home of his sister, Mrs. John Davis of Wallace. The funeral was held from the Wallace Lutheran church Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock with the Rev. O. W. McGaughey of Veedersburg in charge. Burial was in the Wallace Lutheran Cemetery.
