Isiah McElwee, living south of the city died last Friday. He was a member of the GAR Post at this place and was buried by his comrades on Saturday. -- kbz

Resolutions of Condolence – Headquarters John W. Copner Post No 4, Dept of Ind, GAR – Covington, Indiana Dec 3, 1889
Whereas it has pleased the Supreme Commander of the universe to removed from our midst by death, our comraded, Isaiah McElwee and recognizing in comrade McElwee, a true comrade of the Grand Army, a faithful soldier in the days of the rebellion, a good citizen in time of the peace he had helped to establish. Be it:
Resolved by this post in regular convention that our heartfelt sympathy is extended to the widow and Orphans of our late comrade in their great loss and that we on this occasion, renew our obligations to the widow and orphans of our late comrade and that we pledge ourselves to the best of our ability that we will aid and protect the family of our late comrade, Isaiah McElwee and be it further -
Resolved, that the foregoing resolutions he spread of record in the archives of this Post and that a copy be presented to Mrs. McElwee and that each of the Covington papers and the American Tribune of Indianapolis be furnished a copy with a request that they publish the same and that the hall and colors of this post be draped in memory of our deceased comrade for 20 days. Isaiah McElwee was born at Buffalo, Penn and lived there until he was 19 years of age when he moved to Jacksonville, Ind and lived there one year; from there he moved to Urbana, Ill and enlisted in Co C 25th Ill Cavalry and served until end of the war. He has lived ever since the war in Fountain County, Ind and died Nov 30, 1889 at the age of 53 years.
