McELWEE, Charles Layton

Charles Layton McElwee, age 79, native of Fountain County and a resident of Covington for the past 11 years died unexpectedly at about 3:45 o'clock Wednesday afternoon while visiting in the backyard at the home
of one of his neighbors. Mr. McElwee had not been ill and death was attributed to a cerebral hemorrhage. He was born Nov 8, 1876 south of Covington, the son of Isaiah and Arminda Shreves McElwee. He was married Dec 24, 1898 to Lillie Espich who survives. He was a retired railroader, having been employed with the B & O for many years. Mr. McElwee is survived by his widow; one daughter, Mrs. Minnie Nichols of Gary; two brothers, John of Covington and Frank of Clinton; two sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Keyes of Hillsboro and Mrs. Emma Gamble of El Monte, Calif; 7 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mrs. Dewey (Edith) Woodrow, a son, Fred and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Hegg Funeral Home.
