McDONALD, Homer - Fountain County INGenWeb Project

COVINGTON—Homer McDonald, 71, farmer and cattle breeder, died at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville, Ill. He had been in failing health for several years. McDonald, resident of this community for 65 years, was widely known as a Shorthorn breeder. Born July 2, 1894, at Alvin, Ill., he was the son of George and Virginia Reed McDonald. He was married Sept. 20, 1923, to Effie Myers. Survivors include the widow: a son, Homer C. McDonald of Hillsboro; a daughter, Mrs. Virginia See of Auburn, Ind.; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Two sisters preceded him in death. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias and Masonic lodges at Covington and of the Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Hegg Funeral Home in Covington where friends may call.  --typed by Walt W

Homer McDonald, age 71, a resident of Covington the past 65 years and a former resident of Alvin, Ill., died at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville, where he had been hospitalized several times the past year or two. Death was attributed to complications following major surgery several days before. He had been in failing health several years. Mr. McDonald was born July 21, 1894 in Alvin, Ill., the son of George and Virginia Reed McDonald. He was married Sept. 20, 1923 to Effie Myers, who survives. He was a member of Tidal Lodge 36, Knights of Pythias, and Fountain Lodge 60, F&AM, both of Covington and the Covington Presbyterian Church. He was a farmer and breeder of shorthorn cattle and was well known throughout this area. He also had served on the Covington School Board for a number of years when he was younger. Surviving, in addition to the wife, are: one son, Homer C. of Hillsboro; one daughter, Mrs. Virginia Fee of Auburn; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Elma Bodine and Mrs. Minnie Grubb. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p. m. Sunday at the Hegg Funeral Home in Covington. The Rev. Donald Ashley, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiated and burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery.  --typed by Walt W
