Rifle – Ralph Leroy McDaniel, 78, of Rulison who died Saturday night in Veterans Hospital had lived in the Rulison community since 1930.  He was employed by the US Vanadiaum Corporation for many years at the mine on Rifle Creek and later at the mill in Rifle. He retired in 1968.  Mr. McDaniel was born Jan 23, 1896 at Park (sic) County, Indiana and attended schools in nearby Tangier. He served with the US Army during WWI. He married Lena May Starns (sic) at Covington Ind Jan 25, 1919. They moved to Colorado soon after and lived in Sterling, Rocky Ford and Akron. Surviving in addition to Mrs. McDaniel are two daughters, Mrs. Fred VonDette of Rifle and Mrs. Mason Stout of Meeker; six sons, Ralph Jr of Anaheim, Calif; Robert of Orange, Calif; Rodney of Lakewood, Calif; Floyd of Grand Valley; Donald of Buena Park, Calif and Vernon of Bellevue, Wash; two brothers, 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
