McCOY, Elizabeth Powell - Fountain County INGenWeb Project

Kingman, Oct 2 – Mrs. Elizabeth Powell McCoy, Parke County’s centenarian died Sunday. She was 105 years old August 15, last, having been born in Orange County, NC Aug 15, 1911. She lived with her daughter, Mrs. Rachel Marks, near Tangier in Liberty township for years. On the occasion of the celebration of Mrs. McCoy’s 100th anniversary more than 200 relatives and friends gathered to pay her honor. Until recently she was active enough to move about the house, but devoted most of her energies to making quilts. She made and gave to her descendants more than 40 quilts. One recently made by her was exhibited at the centennial celebration of Liberty Township in August. Her last illness was of short duration, following a fall in which her hip was fractured. - kbz
