News of the death of Robert McComas, in an engineer’s hospital at Laredo, Mexico, reached the relatives at Crawfordsville, and his sister, Mrs. William Dewey here on Tuesday. His death occurred on Monday, Feb 4 and is reported to have been from injuries in a smash-up, he being a passenger engineer on a fast run on the MK & T Railway. His home was at Laredo, but with railroad headquarters at Saltillo and where he has been located for about three years, going from Crawfordsville to the far southwest about five years ago. Mr. McComas was 31 years old and single. He was the only living brother of Mrs. Dewey, the only other brother, Stowe, having died at Dennison, Texas some 5 years ago, he too being a railroad engineer. The family are greatly bereaved at the son’s and brother’s untimely death and no certain news having been received of his fatal injury more than a report a few days before the news of his death that he had been killed or injured in a railroad wreck. An attempt will be made to, if possible, have the remains brought home to be buried in the Oak Hill Cemetery. - kbz
