COVINGTON (CNS) — James W. (Willard) McCollum, 41, a farmer of Covington Route 3, died unexpectedly at 2:30 p.m. yesterday (Feb. 14, 1968) at home. Death has been attributed to a heart attack. The son of Manford and Inez Kelley McCollum, he was born March 30, 1926 at Crawfordsville, Ind. Mr. McCollum was married March 23, 1946 to Wyogene Davidson who survives. Others surviving are his mother, Yeddo; a daughter, Mrs. Linda Holt, Covington Route 3; a son, Charles (Chuck) McCollum, at home, and a grandchild. A 1944 graduate of Wallace High, he was a farmer. Mr. McCollum was a member of the Osborne Prairie Christian Church, Boswell Conservation Club, Boswell American Legion, American Hereford Association and the Covington Athletic Booster Club. A member of the Fountain County Farm Bureau, he was president of Fountain County Tractor Pulling Association and an adult leader of the 4-H Club in Wabash Township. He served with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific from 1944-1946. An outdoorsman, Mr. McCollum was an avid hunter, fisherman and trap shooter. Friends will be received at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home, Covington after 6 p.m. today and Friday afternoon and evening. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Scott Comrie officiating. Burial will be in Osborne Prairie Cemetery.  --typed by Walt W

COVINGTON - James W. (Willard) McCollum, age 41, suffered a fatal heart attack at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, at his home on Covington Rt. 3.  He had just finished picking corn and was, in the barn lot when he suddenly became ill.  Two neigibors were with him, when he was stricken.
He was born March 30, 1962 (1962) in Crawfordsville, the son of Manford and Inez Kelley McCollum.  He was married March 23, 1946 to the former Wynogene Davidson, who survives.
Mr. McCollum graduated from Wallace High school in 1944.  He was a member of the Osborn Prairie Christian Church.  He also was a member of the Boswell Conservation Club, Boswell American Legion Post, American Hereford Association, the Covington Athletic Boosters Club and the Fountain County Farm Bureau.  He served as president of the Fountain County Tractor Pulling Contest and was the adult 4-H Leader in Wabash Township.  He was an enthusiastic trap shooter and
he did a lot of hunting and fishing.  He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944, served in the South Pacific and was discharged in 1946.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are: one daughter, Mrs. Linda Holt of Covington Rt. 3; one son, Charles (Chuck) McCollom, at home; one granddaughter, Cherlyn Tracey Holt of Covington Rt. 3; and his mother, Mrs. Inez McCollum of Yeddo.  His father-in-law, Frank Davidson, resides in Crawfordsville.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home here.  The Rev. Scott Comrie officiated and burial was in the Osborn Prairie Cemetery where military rites were held at the graveside.
Pallbearers were Hamilton Smith, Leon Ratcliff, L. J. Osterhoff, Nyle Royer, Alvin Musser and Orville Powell.   Honorary  pallbearers were Harlan Glover, Clifford Crider, Fred Mitchell, Floyd Hovermale, William Nern, and Bryant Robertson.  - jz
