FREEMONT McCLURE, age 10, and five companions were hunting rabbits south of Attica Sunday morning and young McClure stopped at a log pile near the Knowles sawmill to scare out a rabbit which had taken refuge there.
The other boys passed on and shortly afterwards were overtaken by young McClure’s dog, whose queer actions caused them to return to the spot where they had left their companion.
A huge log had rolled from the top of the pile and the body of the boy was pinned under it. The boys procured a chain and by their combined efforts rolled the log from the prostrate body. The boy was dead, his body being terribly crushed. Coroner Halley of Attica was called and found that death of the boy was instantaneous and accidental.
The boy was a son of Mr. and Mrs. George McClure. His father is a well known farmer.
The funeral was conducted from the home of the parents Tuesday afternoon and the interment was made in the Salem cemetery. – thanks to S&E
