Joseph Collett McClellan, age 85, native of Eugene in Vermillion County, Ind., died at 12:25 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, at Memorial Hospital in Lynchburg, Va. ,
Mr. McClellan was born Dec. 28, 1880 at Eugene, the son of Jospeh and Martha Collett McClellan. He was married to Mary Hicks, who preceded him in death March 16, 1959. He was a graduate of Cayuga High. School, also a small university no longer in existence, and later attended Indiana University. He taught school in Cayuga, Eugene and Gessie.
He was employed in the U. S. Treasury Department of the Federal Government from 1917 until he retired in 1950. During this period he resided in Arlington, Va. After his retirement he served as secretary of the Arlington Hospital Board for several years and also was president of the Jefferson Civic League at Arlington. He was a member of Olive Branch Masonic Lodge of Danville, Ill. He had resided at Lovingston, Va., for the past three years.
Mr. McClellan is survived by: one son, Joseph H. McClellan of Lovingston, Va.; two grandsons; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Ben F. McClellan of Eugene.
The body is at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in Covington where friends may call after 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The Rev. Donald True will officiate. Burial will be in Hick's Cemetery, west of Perrysville..
Masonic rites will be conducted at the graveside by the Olive Branch of Danville.
