Hillsboro Dec 13 (1943) – Mrs. Virtie McBroom, 48 of Chicago wife of Fred McBroom, both former residents of Hillsboro, died at the Illinois Central Hospital in Chicago at 8 p.m. Sunday. She had been a medical patient there several days. Mrs. McBroom failed to regain her health following an operation last July. Born in Hillsboro on April 17, 1895, she was a daughter of Finas M. and Gerty Ellis Pitman. She received her education in the Hillsboro schools and was married to Fred McBroom in 1913. Mrs. McBroom was a talented musician and taught piano in Chicago for some time. She was a member of the Woodlawn Baptist Church in Chicago. Surviving are the husband, a daughter, Mrs. Eloise Truce of Crawfordsville, her parents of Hillsboro; a sister, Mrs. Hazel Munns of Columbia City, Ind and a brother, Glen R. Pitman of Hillsboro. Funeral services will be at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Chicago at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The body will be removed to Hillsboro for burial Thursday afternoon in Rose Hill Cemetery. – kbz
