The death of State Senator Victor McBroom of Kankakee, Ill a former Hillsboro resident on Saturday Feb 21 came as a shock to his many relatives in this area. He died at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chicago Saturday morning where hospitalized officials termed his death as unexpected and was possibly the result of a heart complication. He had entered the hospital the preceding Monday for observation and possible surgery in connection with an abdominal ailment. The 72-year-old legislator was born in Hillsboro the son of the late Andrew and Margaret Laird McBroom and the family resided here for several years. McBroom served three terms in the Illinois House. He was elected to his first term in 1940 and was also reelected in 1948, 1952 and 1956. He represented the 20th Senatorial District in the Legislature. For man years he was an automobile and hardware dealer in Kankakee. He was a large farm owner and was active in farming and banking circles. He was chairman of the Kankakee County Republican central committee and before entering the House served for 18 years on the Kankakee County Board of supervisors. He was married to the former Leona Jeffers of Kankakee who survives with a son and daughter. Other survivors are two brothers, Vernon and Stanley of Kankakee and two sisters, Opal of Kankakee and Catherine of California and a number of cousin in this area. Kbz
