McBROOM, Elam Rowland

Word has been received in Hillsboro of the sudden death of Dr. Elam Rowland McBroom, a native Cain Township, who died at his home in New Canton, Ill on March 18 (1943). Dr. McBroom was the son of John A. and Francenia Rowland McBroom, born on a farm east of Hillsboro about 66 years ago. He was a grandson of Elam S. McBroom, a pioneer who lived on the farm east of Hillsboro now owned by William Cronk. When he was 10 years of age the family moved to Lafayette where he attended the public school and graduated from West Lafayette High School. He taught several terms in the public schools of Tippecanoe County. Later he attended the Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago and received his MD degree. Illinois was his home for the remainder of his life. He was a soldier in the war with Spain, enlisting with the company recruited at Lafayette. The regiment of which his company was a part was detailed for guard duty in Cuba where it was in service for one year. Dr. McBroom served until the regiment waws mustered out of service. He is survived by his wife, one son, Rowland C. McBroom of Fort Worth, Texas and three grandsons also two sisters, Mrs. Edwin Roger of Dallas, Texas and Mrs. Lawrence M. Bryan of Lafayette, Ind.
