Newtown, June 3---Gertrude May Mapes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Mapes, was born at St. Joseph, Ill., September 29, 1884, and passed from this life at the home of her parents near Newtown, Ind., Friday, May 31, 1929, at the age of 44 years, 8 months and 2 days. On October 16, 1901, she was married to W. C. West. To this union were born two children, Mrs. Edna Thompson of Attica and Mrs. Gladys Ellis, of Cayuga. October 16, 1910, she was married to H. L. McBride. They are the parents of seven children, six of whom are living, Roe, Lois, Bonnie, Leland, Loutta and Wayne. Besides the husband, children and parents she leaves three grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth White of Danville, Ill.; three brothers, Leonard D., of West Lebanon; Harvey T., of Ambia; and Earl E., of Veedersburg, and many other relatives and a host of friends. She united with the Christian church at Conologue, Ill., in June 1903. Her favorite songs were "Going Down the Valley," "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Asleep In Jesus." Short services were held at the home at noon Sunday and the funeral at 2 o'clock in the Methodist church at Kingman. Rev. J. E. Frye of Mellott, officiated. Interment was held at the Harveysburg cemetery. Pallbearers were T. G. McKnight, Monroe Haas, Carl Palin, James Riffle, C. W. Smith and Fred Kay. Flower girls were the four nieces, Helen Mapes, Carrie Mapes, Maudie Mapes and Hazel White, and Beryl Dodge and Gayle Stahl. --typed by Walt W
