Mellott, Ind., Aug 30 - Two young men met death and a third was probably fatally injured when their light sedan was struck by a fast Cloverleaf freight train on a crossing near here at 7:30 o'clock last night. The dead: Manuel Haynes, 25 years old, son of John Haynes of Independence. Charles Foxworthy, 23 years old, son of Mr. and Mrs. Freeman Foxworthy of Newtown. The injured: Glenn McAdams, 22 years old, son of Charles B. McAdams of near Attica, in Crawfordsville hospital and not expected to recover. Haynes was killed instantly while Foxworthy died at 9:15 o'clock at the home of his parents. Haynes, who was driving, had evidently tried to beat the train, which was the second section of No. 41 to the crossing. The car was demolished and the wreckage carried nearly 4,000 feet. The crossing was well guarded with an automatic electric signal. Haynes and McAdams had left McAdams's home about 3 o'clock this afternoon without telling anyone where they were going, but it was presumed they had attended the Montgomery county fair at Crawfordsville and were returning when the fatal accident occurred. Physicians at the Crawfordsville hospital late last night held out little hope for McAdams.
