Covington - John Virgil Lowe, 82, resident of Covington since 1936, was injured fatally Monday evening when he was struck by a car, driven by Wm. H. Bittle of Covington. The mishap occurred at 5:25 p.m. at the intersection of US 136 and 2nd street while Mr. Lowe was crossing the street in front of his home. He died at 7:05 p.m. in St. Elizabeth's hospital, Danville Ill an hour after being admitted to the hospital. Born June 6 1874 near Wallace, Mr. Lowe was the son of Isiah and Catherine Livengood Lowe. He was married twice, first to Anna Glascock and later to Myrtle Mendenhall. Mr. Lowe who was a lover of race horses had worked with horses many years. During his early life he had engaged in farming. later he was in hardware business at Kingman 5 years. Survivors include a brother, Harry of near Hillsboro and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers and sister. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home, Covington followed by burial at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
