Daniel V. Lookabill, 86, 714 ½ S. Grant Ave., died at 7 a.m. Friday in Culver Hospital where he had been a patient for a week. He had been seriously ill for several months prior to his death. Mr. Lookabill had spent 82 years of his life living in or near Crawfordsville. He was employed with the Crawfordsville branch of the Prudential Life Insurance Co. for 33 years prior to his retirement in 1943. He was a well-known musician in Montgomery County for many years. He had played his cornet in the Bishof Big Store Band and for 10 years was the only cornet player in the Music Hall Orchestra at the Strand Theater. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Crawfordsville and was active as a deacon. He also was a member of the church choir and chairman of the church music committee. Born Feb. 17, 1878, in Fountain County, Mr. Lookabill was the son of Alfred and Harriet Myers Lookabill. On Feb. 17, 1919, he married Faye Densmore at the bride’s home in Crawfordsville. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Randall Lookabill, his brother. Mr. Lookabill was a graduate of the Longview Elementary and High Schools located on Country Club Road. He also attended Wabash College. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Rev. Randall Lookabill, Russell Lookabill, Lawrence Lookabill and Charles Lookabill. Survivors include the widow; two sons, Robert E. of Crawfordsville and Charles R. of Anaheim, Calif., and two granddaughters and a grandson, Jo Ellen Lookabill of Crawfordsville and Irma Lew Lookabill and Daniel Lookabill of Anaheim, Calif. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Bright Funeral Home. Rev. Howard F. Miller of the First Christian Church will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Saturday.
