On May 7, 1874 at the country home of George M. and Sarah Woods Lindley came a baby boy, the sixth child to bless and brighten that home. He was christened Miles Julian. He grew to young manhood here in this devout Quaker home and in the church of this faith held a birth-right membership.
Nov. 17, 1897, he was united in marriage to Lora E. Lindley and to this union were born twins, a boy and a girl, at which time Mrs. Lindley departed this life. The babies lingered only a short time and then followed the mother.
Miles’ vocation has been somewhat varied, farming, blacksmithing and lumbering. His success in all these demonstrates the versatility of his nature and his ability to apply himself to the different conditions of life.
He was married to Edith Davis on Aug. 2, 1916 and having no children they took into their home John Thomas Sowers, when just a mere lad. They gave him timely counsel and affectionate instruction and tried to show him ways that led to wisdom, peach, and happiness.
When there was no longer a Friends Church in the community, after much prayerful consideration, Mr. and Mrs. Lindley decided to place their membership in the Methodist Church and acting accordingly they united with this church on Feb. 20, 1938 under the pastorate of R. G. Strong. Miles was a loyal, generous member and gave to the church of his choice the best there was in him of time and ability. It was his one great desire to see the church grow and flourish.
Miles has been in failing health for the past few years. On Wednesday, Nov. 9, 1949, he entered Lake View Hospital as a patient, for observation and possible surgery. In the early morning hours of Nov. 20, his spirit winged its flight back to the maker who gave it.
The book of his life is closed, but for the indelible picture which his life and character has painted upon the canvas of memory in the minds of those who knew him best, will ever remain as a never ending agreement for higher thoughts, purer actions and more noble deeds. He leaves to mourn, his wife, Edith, John Thomas and family, three brothers, two sisters, and a host of relatives and friends.- thanks to S
