LINDLEY, Martha J. Durman Peek - 1899 - L-Obituaries

Martha J. Durman was born Jan. 23, 1842, died Feb. 25, 1899, aged 57 years, one month and two days. She was married to Henry J. Peek April 7. 1859. To them were born 3 children, two of whom have gone on before. She was left a widow Sept. 29, 1874. She was married to W. Lindley in Dec. 1882. To this union was born one daughter who is left to mourn her loss. She was first a member of the Methodist church and later on transferred her membership to the United Brethren denomination, at Kingman. Matt, as she was familiarly known by her near friends, was wide and popularly known for her kindness and sterling qualities. She seemed resigned to die, and her great worry was for her two daughters and near relation, that they must not grieve for her. Her sufferings were intense to the last, which she bore with great fortitude until death ended all. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Elder in the U. B. church at Kingman, after which she was laid to rest in Harveysburg cemetery. –jlr
