MANLEY LINDLEY, son of Joseph and Nancy Lindley, was born in Fountain Co., Ind., May 27, 1848, died at his home in Cates, Ind., May 6, 1914, being at the time of his death 65 years, 11 months and 9 days old. Uncle Manley, as he was familiarly known, had been in poor health for some weeks, but of late had been out and around some, having been out to the friend and piled some brush in the forenoon, but complained of feeling tired. After eating dinner he had gone to the barn to shell some corn and was found unconscious by Rufus Abernathy, who went for Vess Lindley to help but when they returned found life had left him, heart trouble being the immediate cause of his death. Mr. Lindley was of a family of eight children, three sisters and five brothers, all having preceded him in death, except Wm. L. of near Cates, Ind., and Irvin of Kingman, Ind. He was married to Lovinda C. Thomas March 8, 1877. To this union were born three sons: Sylvanus, who resides with his parents; Sylvester of Cates, and John Claudie, who came to his death by accident March 9, 1901. Mr. Lindley was converted and joined the United Brethren church at Beech Grove during a meeting conducted by Rev. Teague in 1887, and had remained true to the faith until death. By his death the community has lost a good citizen, the boys a kind indulgent father, the widow a dutiful and loving husband. Besides his immediate family and other relatives, he leaves a host of friends to mourn his departure. But judging by the life lived, we believe that our loss is his eternal gain. - S
