Archie Estel ‘Speck’ Lighty, Jr. Jan. 9, 1922 – Aug. 31, 2000 Archie Estel “Speck” Lighty, Jr., 78, Veedersburg, died 8:40 p.m. Thursday in the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Danville, Ill. Mr. Lighty had worked in the maintenance department of the Harrison Steel Castings Co., Attica, retiring in 1982. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran serving in the Asiatic and Pacific theaters. His memberships included Hillsboro United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 188, Hillsboro. He was born Jan. 9, 1922, at Fithian, Ill., to Archie E. and Virgie Stringfield Lighty, Sr. He was a 1940 Hillsboro High School graduate. He married Eileen Agatha Bell on Nov. 29, 1945. She died July 12, 1960. He married Phyllis Murdock July 28, 1968. She died May 1979. He then married Ersie Jane Houser Sept. 30, 1979. She survives. Surviving with his wife are six daughters, Linda Zeller, Theresa Harmless, Esteleen Spragg, Sheila Smith, Tracey Pickett, and Michele Fishero; a son, Dennis Lighty; a stepson, John Houser; a sister, Betty Chezem, Darlington; 19 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Maus Funeral Home, Hillsboro, with the Rev. Rob Rixman officiating. Burial with military gravesite services will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Hillsboro. Friends may call at the funeral home 4-8 p.m. Monday. Memorials may be made to the 40 & 8 Nurses’ Scholarship, c/o Linn Hutchinson, 1301 S. Washington St., Crawfordsville.

VEEDERSBURG — Archie Estel “Speck” Lighty, Jr., 78, 101 N. Sherman St., Veedersburg, died at 8:40 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000 in the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Danville, Ill. He was born Jan. 9, 1922 in Fithian, Ill., the son of Archie E. and Virgie Stringfield Lighty, Sr. He married Eileen Agatha Bell Nov. 29, 1945. She preceded in death July 12, 1960. He married Phyllis Murdock July 28, 1968. She preceded in death in May 1979. He married Ersie Jane Houser Sept. 30, 1979. She survives. He lived most of his life in Fountain County. He graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1940. He worked in the maintenance department at Harrison Steel Castings Company in Attica until his retirement in 1982. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army Air Corps, serving in the Asiatic and Pacific Theaters. He was a member of the Hillsboro United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post #188 of Hillsboro. Survivors, besides the wife, include: six daughters, Linda Zeller, Theresa (Larry) Harmless, Esteleen (Greg) Spragg, Sheila (Bill) Smith, Tracey (Jim) Pickett, Michele (Jeff) Fishero; a son, Dennis (Patty) Lighty; a step son, John (Kathy) Houser; a sister, Betty (Frank) Chezem, Darlington; 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by two brothers. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Maus Funeral Home, Hillsboro, with the Rev. Rob Rixman officiating.
