Samuel E. Lewsader, age 80, a Covington area native died Wednesday evening, Feb. 15, in a hospital in Donna, Texas, where he had been spending the winter with his son. A resident of Lafayette for several years, Mr. Lewsader was a poultry dealer and worked as a groundskeeper for Purdue University, West Lafayette. He had been ill about six years following brain surgery. Mr. Lewsader was born south of Covington Oct. 30, 1886, the son of Arlonzo and Melvina Marlor Lewsader. He spent his early life in that area and later moved to the Boswell vicinity where he operated a farm for several years. In May, 1908, he married the former Verna Suiters of the West Liberty area, south of Covington. She survives and was with him in Texas. Other survivors include: two daughters, Miss Crystal Fern Lewsader of Lafayette and Mrs. Hazel Williams of Farmland; three sons, Harold of Donna, Tex., and Glenn and Charles, both of California; four sisters, Mrs. Florence Yerkes of Danville, Mrs. Hazel Rowe of Covington Rt. 1, Mrs. Eleanor Hurt of Springfield, Ill., and Mrs. Laveda Leach of Bedford, and two brothers, Claude and Don, both of Lansing, Mich. There are several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A brother, Thomas, and an infant son, Forest, preceded him in death. He was active in a non-denominational church which often conducted meetings in his home in Lafayette. --Typed by Debby Masterson.
