Thelma A. (Yater) Lewis, 84 of 1010 Cumberland Ave, West Lafayette, died at 11:21 p.m. Thursday Dec 11, 1997 in St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Mrs. Lewis worked in the housekeeping department at Purdue University from 1962 until retiring in 1977. She also worked at SS Kresge’s. Born in Attica on Dec 8, 1913 she grew up in the Attica area, graduating from Attica HS in 1933 and had been a resident of the Lafayette area most of her life. She married Paul L. Lewis April 9, 1936 in Lafayette. He died Nov 21, 1958. Mrs. Lewis attended the Episcopal United Brethren. She enjoyed traveling, reading, crocheting and ceramics. Surviving are a daughter, Colleen Lewis of Whittier, Calif; a sister, Irma Thomas of Alkgan Mich; 9 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Terry and Daniel Lewis. Visitation was prior to service on Monday at Hippensteel Chaperl. Interment at Battle Ground cemetery.
