HON. OLIVER P. LEWIS, one of the best known attornies practicing at the Fountain county bar, died suddenly just after dinner Thursday, says the Covington Friend. His death occurred in a room located in the old Prescott building on the northwest corner of the public square, occupied as a home by Wm. K. Crane. Mr. Lewis went there on Wednesday evening complaining of not feeling well and asked permission of Mr. Crane to remain over night with him. He was sick through the night and a physician was called the next morning. His condition was very serious then, and he expired within a few hours. The remains were taken to the Geo. W. Kerr & son undertaking rooms and prepared for burial. “Judge” Lewis, as he was familiarly known, was a remarkably brilliant and able attorney. He has been associated with some of the most important cases ever tried in the Fountain circuit court, and he enjoyed a large acquaintance and practice over the county. The death of his wife several years ago, was a severe blow to him and since that time he lost much of his old time energy and ambition. Oliver Perry Lewis was a Covington boy. He was a graduate of the Covington high school and early in life showed his ability as a public speaker. He was a leader in politics and was always in demand at every political meeting. He served this county as Representative in the legislature and he could have had any office as the gift of his party if he had asked for it, but he preferred to work in his chosen profession. He was a brilliant, genial whole-souled and likeable, and attracted many friends to him, who will be grieved at his sudden death. -s
