Frederick H. Lesh, Jr., a 22-year-old Rt. 2, Attica man was killed instantly at 8:12 a.m. Thursday when his van was struck broadside by a Norfolk and Western freight at the N&W crossing in Riverside.
  According to railroad officials, engineer H. Schrader of Denver, Ind., sounded the train whistle as a warning, but the two-tone van truck pulled into the path of the 50-mile-per-hour train. After impact the van was dragged 1,600 feet down the track before the train could come to a halt.
  Investigating at the scene were Attica City Police, state trooper Dave Landes and railroad officials.
  At the time of his death, the victim was residing on Rt. 2, Attica, and was employed by a landscaping firm at Green Hill.
  Lesh had attended Purdue University and Wabash College, and was employed in this vicinity for the summer.
  Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick H. Lesh Sr., 7788 Holiday Drive East, Indianapolis, and two brothers, David E. and Perry W. Lesh, both at home.
