Anthony A. “Tony” LePage, 73, a printer and former Covington Friend newspaper publisher, died at 7:40 p.m. Sunday, February 4, 1979 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Danville, Ill. He had been a patient six days and had been ill the past eight years.
He was a linotype operator at the Covington Friend from 1928 to 1933 and at the Commercial-News in Danville from 1933 to 1948.
In 1948, he purchased the Covington Friend and served as editor and publisher until 1963. He opened the L & S. Printing Co. in Covington in 1970 and was still a member of the firm.
Mr. LePage was born March 10, 1905 at Sandy Run, Pa.. He was the son of Anthony A. C. and Emma Richir LePage. He was married June 29, 1926, to Bessie E. Llewellyn, who survivea
LePage came to Covington in 1948. He formerly resided in Universal and Danville.
He was a 50-year member of the Fountain Masonic Lodge 60 and the Typographical Union Local 177. He also was a member of Council 34 Royal and Select Masons, Wallace Low 12 Club and Tidal Lodge 36 Knights of Pythias.
Other survivors include a son, Maj. David A. LePage of the Minot Air Force Base, N. D.; a sister, Mrs. Emma O’Connell of Holbrook, Ariz.; a brother, Frank W. of Tulsa, Okla.; two grandchildren and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Adolph and Howard.
Services were held Wednesday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in Covington with the Rev. Robert H. Miller officiating. Masonic rites were held at the funeral home at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. – thanks to S
