The 14-year-old grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Coffman Leonard of Hillsboro was killed instantly August 11, when he drove a motorcycle into the path of a semi-trailer in Benton County. James R. Leonard of RR 3, Fowler, was pronounced dead at the scene at about 10:15 p.m.
The accident occurred at the intersection of state Road 18 and County Road 850-E when he apparently failed to stop at a stop sign at State Road 18 and pulled into the path of the eastbound truck.
The victim was the son of James and Shirley Coffman Leonard and would have been a freshman at Benton Central High School this fall. He was a member of Future Farmers of America, the high school band, Oxford Pony League baseball team and attended Fowler Christian Church.
Other survivors include three sisters, Terry Lancaster of Fowler, Kathy Wilson of Cicero, and Kim Leonard at home; and a brother, John Leonard of Fowler.
Funeral services were at Windler Funeral Home in Fowler with Rev. Ken Lanimore officiating. Burial was in Fowler Cemetery. The family asked that any memorial contributions be made to Benton Central Future Farmers of America. ā thanks so much to āSā
