A precious one from us has gone – a voice we loved is still – a place is vacant in our hearts – which never can be filled. God, in His wisdom has recalled the one, His love has given And tho’ her body slumbers here - Her soul is safe in Heaven. We are here to pay our last respects to a kind, loving wife, mother and friend. Blanche Myrtle Leonard, daughter of Benjamin and Malinda Copeland DeBaun was born Oct 15, 1885 in Penn Township and departed this life at her home near Sylvania in the early morning house of Sept 1, 1946 at the age of 60 years 10 months 15 days. Almost all of her life was spent in Parke County with the exception of a few years in childhood which were spent in Fountain County near Covington. She attended school at what was known as the Old Rockport school and later at Sylvania and Kingman. As a girl and young woman she attended church with her parents and sister at the Baptist Church at Tangier. On Jan 30, 1907 she was united in marriage with Perry S. Leonard. To this union were born two children, Evon and Garnett. She was a devoted wife and mother and dearly loved her home; one always felt such a hearty welcome when in the home. She was of a kindly disposition and always ready and anxious to do a kindness to other and help someone in need. Although she never united with any church, she was a firm believer in the Lord Jesus. After moving to the Fairview neighborhood, she, with her family were regular attendants at the church until her health began to fail. For the last several years she had remained quietly at home, striving to regain her health but to no avail. After her mother’s death, she moved into her father’s home and cared for him until his death. She leaves to mourn her departure the husband, Perry S. Leonard and daughter, Evon at home, the son Garrett and wife and four grandchildren of Greencastle; one sister, Mrs. Carrie Heath of Kingman; one niece, Mrs. Beatrice Brant of Remington with many other relatives and hosts of friends. Her smiling way and pleasant face are a pleasure to recall – She had a kindly word for each and died beloved by all – Some day we hope to meet her Some day we know not when – To clasp her hand in the better land – Never to part again. The pearly gates were opened A Gentle voice said, “Come” And with farewells unspoken She gently entered home. – kbz
