ATTICA — Raymond J. Lefton, 82, 406 Maple St., Attica, died at 1:55 a.m. Thursday, July 1, 1999 in St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis. He had been hospitalized since June 29. Born July 29, 1916 in Warren County, he was the son of Raymond "Mick” and Viola Marie Simmermon Lefton. He married Kathaline D. "Betty" Routzahn July 24, 1938 in West Lebanon. She preceded in death July 21, 1986. He graduated from Attica High School and had lived most of his life in Attica. He was a pattern maker at Harrison Steel Casting Co. in Attica for several years. He was a member of the Attica First United Methodist Church and Attica Eagles Lodge 2596. He was an avid golfer, winning several area and club tournaments and championships. Survivors include: son, Ret. Col. Jerry Dean Lefton, Pinehurst, N.C.; daughter, Vicki (John) Thorne, Annapolis, Md.; four grandchildren, Cynthia and David Lefton, Joanna and Kristina Thorne; and a great-grandson, Joshua Thorne; one nephew; and one niece. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Fred “Gabe” Lefton and Charles Lee Lefton. Funeral services were at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Maus Funeral Home, Attica, with the Rev. Jeff Newton officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Attica. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association. – jlr
