Fred Lefton, 48, of 703 Ravine Park Blvd., was pronounced dead-on-arrival at Lafayette's St. Elizabeth Hospital at 4:55 p.m. Sunday after suffering a heart attack while enroute to Lafayette. Mr. Lefton and his wife, Patricia, were on Ind. 25 near Elston with Lefton driving. Mrs. Lefton reported that an auto started to pull from a side road and then swerved back out of the way of the approaching Lefton auto. He and Mrs. Lefton were able to get their auto stopped and pulled off the side of the road. She hailed a passerby who assisted in getting Mr. Lefton to the hospital. He was born in Warren County near Kramer, Feb. 2, 1919, the son of Raymond and Viola Simmerman Lefton. He lived most of his life in Attica except for six years in Florida. He was married in Attica, May 17, 1940 to Patricia Snyder and was a graduate of Attica High. Employed the past four years at the Tipton Real Estate Agency, he had been a partner with his father-in-law, Floyd Snyder, in Snyder's Notions store in Attica, now known as "the Index." He also had managed the Tips Toggery in Attica and Lafayette four years. Mr. Lefton was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Surviving in addition to the widow, is a daughter, Maribeth at home, a senior in Attica High; a son, Jeffrey Lynn of Lafayette; his mother, Mrs. Viola Lefton and a brother, Charles Lee, both of Largo, Fla., and a brother, Raymond of Attica. Friends will be received at the DeSutter Funeral Home after 6 p.m. Tuesday. Services will be in DeSutter Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Donald Ashley officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. The family suggests that memorials be contributions to the heart fund.  --Typed by Debby Masterson.
