Covington – William H. Layton, 81, died Tuesday Jan 26, 1942 at the Masonic Home at Franklin, Ind where he had been staying the past several months. He had suffered a stroke of paralysis about two years ago from which he had never fully recovered. He was born on a farm east of Covington Nov 2, 1860. His wife, Emily Hershberger Layton, preceded him in death in 1936. During early part of his life, he was noted as a financier in Covington and aided in organization of old First National Bank, bank at Cates, Ind, bank at Mellott, Ind and Fountain Trust Company here. Fountain Trust Company is the only banking institution of those named still in operation today. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and belonged to all of the Masonic branches. He was also a member of the Christian Church. He is survived by a son, Clyde E. Layton, Indianapolis and a brother, Fred Layton, Covington. The body is at the Frank Y. Shelby Funeral Home.
