Covington, Ind.— Mrs. Etta Thompson Layton, oldest resident of Fountain County who has lived in Fort Lauderdale and Covington, died at the age of 100 at 3:30 a. m. today (Aug. 21, 1964) at the Rudisill Nursing Home. She was a patient since March and had been in poor health for six months. Born near Veedersburg April 16, 1864, she was the daughter of James and Caroline Lucas Thompson. She was married to Fred E. Layton, Oct. 26, 1887. He preceded her in death in 1948. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Beryl Galloway of Covington; two sons, Mont of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Max T. Layton of Covington; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one nephew. Two daughters, one sister and one brother also preceded her in death. She was a member of the Covington Baptist Church. The body is at the Hegg Funeral Home where friends will be received after 2 p. m. Saturday. Funeral will be at 2:30 p. m. Sunday, at the funeral home. The Rev. Glenn Ray will officiate with burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery.  --typed by Walt W

Mrs. Etta Thompson Layton, Fountain County's oldest resident, died at the age of 100 at 3:30 a.m. August 21, at the Rudisill Nursing Home at Covington where she had been a patient since March.
Mrs. Layton made her home in Covington and spent her winters in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.  She was born near Veedersburg April 16, 1864, the daughter of James and Caroline Lucas Thompson.
She was married to Fred E. Layton on October 26, 1887 and he preceded her in death in 1948.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Beryl Galloway of Covington; two sons, Mont of Fort Lauderdale, and Max T. of Covington; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one nephew.
Two daughters, one sister and one brother also preceded her in death. She was a member of the Covington Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Hegg Funeral Home with the Rev. Glenn Ray officiating.  Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
