Covington — (CNS) — Albert B. Layton, 77, a retired Peoria & Eastern Railroad crossing watchman, died at 1:30 p. m. Sunday (June 17, 1951) at his home in Covington. He had been in failing health three years and seriously ill the past six weeks. Mr. Layton, watchman at the Vermilion St. crossing in Danville several years, retired in 1948 with more than 32 years of service. He was born Apr. 22, 1874 in Warren County, Ind., the son of Albert Smith and Nancy Houchin Layton. He was married Feb. 16, 1898 to Ara May Ware, who survives. The couple resided in Covington since 1914. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mavia Romine of Danville Route 2; and Mrs. Vala Keller of Danville; two sons, H. Max Layton of Covington, and Paul L. Layton of Harvey, Ill.; seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Galaway Evangelical United Brethren Church in Warren County. The body is at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in Covington where it will remain for services at 3 p. m. DST Wednesday. The Rev. George Cain and the Rev. Thomas Paino will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery. --typed by Walt W
