ATTICA — Bernice M. (Brusveen) Crouch Layden, 89, formerly of Attica and had been residing in Escondido, Calif., died at 10:38 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000 in Sunbridge East Nursing Center, Escondido. She was born June 14, 1910 in Hollandale, Wisc., the daughter of Bernhard and Gurina Gordon Brusveen. She married Michael Crouch Dec. 1, 1930 in Chicago, Ill. He preceded in death June 4, 1964. On June 25, 1965 she married Carl Layden in Attica. He preceded in death Dec. 4, 1985. She was raised in Hollandale and graduated from Hollandale High School. She had lived in Chicago before moving to Attica in 1943, where she resided until moving to Escondido in the fall of 1998. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Attica First United Methodist Church and was active in the Thrift Shop of the church. She had also been a member of the Blessed Sacrament Church in West Lafayette. While living in Escondido she attended the United Methodist Church. Survivors include: a son, Robert Crouch, Escondido; two daughters, Virginia Leak, Escondido, Nancy (Jerry) Johnston, West Lafayette; nine grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a brother, a sister, two half sisters and three half brothers. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 28 in Attica First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeff Newton officiating. Burial of ashes will be in Riverside Cemetery, Attica. Maus Funeral Home, Attica, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Thrift Shop. – jlr
