Mrs. Merle (Alta Mae) Lawton, 63, of Rt. 2, Crawfordsville, died at 5 a.m. Friday in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Lafayette. Mrs. Lawton, a 1935 graduate of Veedersburg High School, was a member of Smartsburg Christian Church, OES 97 and Delta Sigma Kappa Sorority. A native of Veedersburg, she was born Feb. 28, 1917, a daughter of Benjamin and Doris Thompson Fogleman. She married Byron Austin Keefe Feb. 29, 1936. He preceded her in death. On Feb. 8, 1975, she married Merle E. Lawton. Surviving with her husband are a son, Ben Keefe of Rt. 1, Crawfordsville; a stepdaughter, Billie Heinz of Rt. 6, Crawfordsville; two grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Hunt & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Curtis O. McIntyre officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Sunday.   ---smc

Mrs. Alta Mae Lawton of RR 2, Crawfordsville, age 63, died Friday morning, January 16, in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Lafayette. She was born at Veedersburg, February 28, 1917, the daughter of Benjamin and Doris Thompson Fogleman. February 29, 1936, she married Byron Austin Keefe, who preceded her in death. February 8, 1975, she married Merle E. Lawton, who survives.
  A 1935 graduate of Veedersburg High School, she was a member of Smartsburg Christian Church, Delta Sigma Kappa sorority and Order of the Eastern Star.
  Also surviving are a son, Ben Keefe of RR 1, Crawfordsville; a stepdaughter, Billie Heinz of RR 6, Crawfordsville; two grandchildren, three step grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
  Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Hunt and Son Funeral Home in Crawfordsville with Rev. Curtis O. McIntyre officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery at Crawfordsville. – S
