WILLIAMSPORT — Joe Ray Lawson, 80, Williamsport, died at 1:10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25, 2006 in VA Illiana Health Care System, Danville, Ill., where he had been residing the past year. He was born July 22, 1926 in Dana, the son of Jesse Cleveland and Goldie Myrtle (Smith) Lawson. He married Mary Joyce Ridens in April 1972. She survives. He was a 1944 graduate of Perrysville High School. He was an Army veteran of World War II in the Pacific campaign. He was a nurses's aid 10 years at the VA Hospital, Danville, and then as an assembler at Hyster 25 years, retiring in 1988. He also was a farmer all his life and last employed part-time by Bob Silver. Survivors, besides the wife, include: a brother, James Lawson, Danville, Ill., a sister, Martha Trosper, Perrysville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Monday in Shelby Funeral Home, Covington, with the Rev. Grover Williams officiating. Burial was in Lower Mound Cemetery, Covington, with military services by the American Legion and V.F.W. Memorials requested to the VA Auxiliary, 1900 E. Main, Danville, Ill. 61832. – jlr

Williamsport -- Joe Ray Lawson, 80 of Williamsport died at 1:10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25, 2006 in the Veterans Administration Illiana Health Care System, Danville, Ill where he had been residing the past year. Born July 22, 1926 in Dana, he was the son of the late Jesse Cleaveland and Goldie Myrtle Smith Lawson.  He was a 1944 graduate of Perrysville High School and an Army veteran of WWII in the Pacific campaign.  He was a nurse's aide 10 years at the VA Hospital, Danville, Ill and then an assembler at Hyster 25 years, retiring in 1988. He also was a farmer most of his life and last employed part time by Bob Silver.  He married Mary Joyce Riden in April 1973 and she survives.  Also surviving are a brother, james Lawson of Danville, Ill, a sister, Martha Trosper of Perrysville.
