Celene Nicole Lawson, 2 ½, whose parents formerly lived in Mellott, was struck by an automobile near her home in Miami, Fla., early Tuesday evening, Dec. 10, and died a short time later while undergoing brain surgery.
She and her mother were viewing a Christmas decoration on to of a neighbor’s house. In order to get a better view the child stepped off the curb near the edge of the street and was struck by a passing motorist.
The family formerly resided in Mellott and moved to Miami about five months ago.
The tot was born July 7, 1972, at Oakland, Calif., the daughter of Karen Banky Lawson, formerly of Antioch, Ill. and Daniel Lawson, a Vietnam veteran, of Mellott; maternal grandparents, Mrs. Mildred Banky and John Banky, both of Miami; paternal great grandmother, Mrs. D. S. Smith, Newtown; maternal great grandfather, Fred Techert, Antioch, Ill.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Christ Lutheran Church at Miami Shores, Fla. Private services will be held Monday afternoon at the Strang Funeral Home at Antioch, with burial at Antioch. -s
