Jeff Lashbrook, father of Mrs. Cecil Rice of this city took his own life Tuesday by drinking carbolic acid. His dead body was found in the barn at his home in Veedersburg by his children who, upon returning from school at noon went to the barn to water the cow. Mr. Lashbrook left the house in the morning and his wife supposed he had gone to husk corn. When the body was found at noon by the children in the barn a doctor was summoned but found that Mr. Lashbrook had been dead several hours. Mr. Lashbrook had been watchman for the C&EL Railroad until the abandonment of the road and it is thought he had become despondent because he had been out of work and this caused him to take his own life. Besides the widow 7 children survive – Mrs. Cecil Rice of this city; Mrs. Ralph Roach who lives near Veedersburg, Edna, Truman, Willis, Arnett and Garnett who are still at the parental home.
