Samuel Oscar Lamb, who committed suicide Friday afternoonn at his home, 414 Sidell Avenue, Danville, Illinois regretted his rash act after swallowing the fatal dose, acording to tesstimony of his wife, Mrs. Mary E. Lamb, given at the coroner's inquest, which was held Saturday morning. Mrs. Lamb said her husband called to her a few minutes after he had swallowed the fatal dose and when she entered the room she found him lying across a bed, writhing in agony. After informing her of what he had done he said he regretted his action and pleaded with her to help save his life. He asked for some sweet milk, saying he believed it would help him and also asked her to summon a physician. Then he learned that his relatives in Indiana he notified and that they be instructed to make all arrangements for his funeral and burial. Mrs. Lamb who was the only witness at the inquest also testified concerning the injury suffered by her husband about a week ago, while in the employ of the Crystal ice Co. She said he had been despondent since being informed by a physician that it would be necessary for him to submit to a severe surgical operation before he could recovr, and that he had, within the last few days, frequently threatened to "end it all," so that he would not be a burden to her. It developed during the inquest that the poison swallowed by the unfortunate man was not carbolic acid, as Coroner Cole was informed shortly after the man's death. The deadly concoction taken by him was a mixture Vapo Creolin, a drug used as a disinfectant and water. The principal ingredient of the mixture is carbolicc acid, however and the odor was so strong in the room in which the body was laying when the coroner reached the house that it was believevd he had taken the fiery liquid to end his life. The brothers and sisters of the dead man arrived in Danville Saturday morning, and made arrangements to have the body taken overland to Mellott, Indiana the former home. The funeral services were held from the home of a relative Sunday at 2:00 o'clock and the body will be laid to rest in the Mellott Cemetery.
