KUNKLE, William Francis Samuel

William F. Kunkle was born in Adams County, PA , the son of John Kunkle (1823-1889) & Catherine Elizabeth Schriver (1830-1889), and was the husband of Nancy J. McIntire (born 1844). In 1860, he was a laborer living in Butler Township, Adams County. He stood 5' 3" tall (although he may have grown taller after that) and had light hair and gray eyes. He was living in Indiana by no later than 1899 and probably well before.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted Middletown (today's Biglerville), Adams County, March 13, 1865, with Co. A, 103rd Pa Inf, and overstating his age by four years. Honorably discharged with his company on June 25, 1865. (Source: Dennis W. Brandt)
He married Nancy Jane McIntire on January 27, 1870 in Adams County, Pennsylvania. He married Emmaline Sarah Wolf (1854-1886) about 1878 in Pennsylvania. He married Jennie McCoy Harman (born 1859) June 25, 1888 in Fountain County, Indiana. He also married Lucinda Davis (1857-1904) on June 9, 1892 in Fountain County, Indiana. He married Sarah Ellen Moore (1865-1906) on December 20, 1904 in Fountain County, Indiana. He married Mary L. Puckett (1852-1916) on May 30, 1907 in Benton County, Indiana.
He served time in the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City, Indiana. Prisoner #1750 from Fountain County; sentenced on May 29, 1900 for petty larson to serve 1 to 3 years. Newspaper article about the incident: "William Cunkle, father of Garfield and George, charged with stealing Colvert's corn, was given a hearing before Judge Chase, Tuesday. He was given from one to three years in the prison North. The boys case have not yet been decided."
