Mrs. Hannah Kuder, who for 14 years had
resided with her daughter, Mrs. Katharine Trickle. In this city, died Thursday
morning at 10:30 o’clock after an illness of about 3 weeks. Her death was
caused by a complication of ailments incident to old age. The following account
of her life was read at the funeral services which were held Saturday afternoon
at 2 o’clock at the home of Mrs. Trickle. Burial was made at Maplewood. Grandma
Kuder, as she was affectionately called by
her neighbors and friends, passed quietly and peacefully from the body at 10:30
a.m. May 15, 1913. She had lived the three score and 10 with almost another
score of years added, having attained the ripe old age of 88 years 10 months 10
days. Her maiden name was Hannah Clawson and she was born in Ohio July 5, 1824. She came with her parents to Fountain County,
Indiana while yet in her girlhood. She was married in the year in the year 1842
to Mr. Jonathan Gandy. To this union two children were born, one of whom with
the husband died, the other, Alonzo Gandy of Paxton Illinois survives. On the
16th day of December 1845 she was married to William Covalt. To them were born 11 children, four of whom
survive her: Mrs. Katharine Trickle, of Rantoul, Illinois with whom her mother
has made her home for the past 14 years; Clawson Covalt of Albany, Oregon;
William Covalt of Mangham, Louisiana and Charles Covalt of Chicago. Besides
these children, she leaves 16 grandchildren and a large number of great
grandchildren. The family moved to Illinois from Indiana about the year 1858,
settling at Paxton in Ford County where the deceased spent the greater part of
her life. She was married to Mr. John Kuder about the year 1885. Sister Kuder
was a member of the First ME Church of this place and lived a consistent
Christian life. She was very quiet, even tempered, always patient and
kind-hearted.
