James Knowles, a well known and highly esteemed citizen of Independence died at his home in the above town Tuesday morning about 4 o'clock from the effects of a stroke of paralysis which he suffered Sunday. Mr. Knowles was seized while sitting at the dinner table Sunday. While sitting at the table he was suddenly seized with a severe headache. He spoke to his wife about it and leaned over on his hand, finally falling forward unconscious. He never regained consciousness and passed away early Tuesday. The deceased was born near Green Hill 68 years ago and he spent all his life in Warren County. He was a soldier in the Union Army during the war of the rebellion, being one of the very young men who went to the defense of his country. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge at Independence. He was a man of strict honesty and had the confidence of all his accquaintances. He was a good man and a splendid citizen. The deceased is survived by a wife, a brother MINOS KNOWLES who lives near Independence and a sister MRS. SHOAF who lives between Independence and Green Hill, MRS. JAMES E. REYNOLDS of this city is a neice of the decendent. The funeral was conduted from the Christian Church in Independence at 10:00a.m. yesterday morning, Elder A.W. Jackman of this city officiating. Interment was made in the Davis Cemetery near Green Hill.
