Robert Russell Kirby, 68, 20 Brown, Williamsport, died at 12:54 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Danville, Ill. He was born July 25, 1918 in Attica, the son of Homer Russell and Stella Solomon Kirby. He married Phyllis Cheesman on Oct. 27, 1985 in Williamsport. She survives. He previously lived in Attica and Apache Junction, Ariz., and lived in Williamsport the last one and a half years. He attended Attica schools and was a self-employed refrigeration and air conditioning serviceman. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions. He served in northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He received the EAME theater ribbon, four bronze stars, Purple Heart, distinguished service unit badge with one oak leaf cluster and combat infantry badge. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3318 in Attica and attended the assembly of God Church. Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons, Ronald, Williamsport, and Robert, Goodyear, Ariz.; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Cheryl) Ballow, Attica; a brother, Clifford, Route 1, Attica; seven sisters, Mrs. Jennie Bennett, Apache Junction, Ariz.; Mrs. Gwendolyn Allen and Mrs. Geraldine Gillespie, both of Williamsport; Mrs. Margaret Bell, Lafayette; Mrs. Dorothy McMurtrie, Route 1, Attica; Mrs. Marilyn Clawson and Mrs.. Sharla Blythe, both of Stockton, Calif.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday at the Maus Funeral Home Chapel, Attica, with the Rev. Joe Bell officiating. Musical selection sung was "One Night I Had A Dream." Those who served as pallbearers were Rick Kirby, Rusty Kirby, William Allen, Jay Wilson, Randy Kirby and Robert Stonebraker. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Attica, with military graveside services.
