James William King, 72, of 600 N. Fifth St., Attica, died at 6:15 a.m. Sunday (March 30, 1969) in Home Hospital, Lafayette, where he had been taken Saturday after becoming seriously ill at a sale on the Westring farm. He had been in ill health the past year, however, his death was sudden and unexpected. He was born at Independence in Warren County March 9, 1897, the son of William Burr and Rose Mathias King. He was married Jan. 20, 1916 at Covington to Celia Van Cleave. He had spent his earlier life in Warren County as a farmer, coming to Attica in 1929 where he was owner and operator of King's Restaurant which was also a bus station and a taxi service. In 1943, he retired from the restaurant. He attended Rock College school near Independence. He was a charter member and past president of Attica Aerie 2596 of Eagles and a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge. Surviving besides the wife are one son, Charles King of Route 3, Attica and one daughter Mrs. Thurston (Iva Lucille) Minick of Mellott. Two brothers, Harry V. King of Attica and Vern King of Lafayette; one sister, Lena King of Terre Haute; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. Funeral services were Wednesday in DeSutter Chapel with Rev. Eldon Brown, pastor of Riverview United Methodist Church officiating. Burial in Riverside Cemetery, Attica. - jlr
