COVINGTON – Ellsworth R. (Pop) King, age 69, of 1313 Fourth St., Covington, a former resident of Danville, Ill., died at 11:29 p.m. Sunday, March 23, at Lake View Memorial Hospital in Danville, where he had been a patient since March 16. Mr. King moved to Covington from Danville five years ago. He was born March 28, 1899, in Tuscola, Ill., the son of Daniel and Mahalia Shute King. He had been a boilermaker at the C & EI shops for 25 years, retiring in 1948. He was a Navy veteran of World War I. He was married Dec. 1, 1923, in Danville, to Nellie Stover, who survives. Mr. King was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Cootie Club. He was a former member of the American Legion and the World War I Veterans. Surviving, in addition to the wife, are: two sons, John E. and George H., both of Covington; five daughters, Mrs. Betty Lou Kisner of Tomah, Wis., Mrs. Dale (Maxine) Nelson, Mrs. Forrest (Virginia) Shaefer, Mrs. Leland (Mary) DeVores and Mrs. Richard (Evelyn) Nasser, all of Danville; 30 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. today, March 26, at the Barrick & Son Funeral Home in Danville. The Rev. P. J. Hamilton, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Covington, officiated. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park, north of Danville. – jlr
