It is reported that Miss Bessie King, the girl who came into the limelight when Mitchell Kiger of Danville was shot to death by Charles E. Foxworthy near Cates a few weeks ago has disappeared from the home of her uncle and aunt, where she had lived many years. It will be remembered that Miss King was an eye witness sin the killing and that she was considered an important witness for the state, although she had not yet been summoned by either side. It is said the girl left the Kiger home a few days ago and that her whereabouts is unknown to her relatives. Both the prosecution and defendant case declare the girl is one of their main witnesses and that an effort will be made to locate her in time for the trial, Dec. 19

Danville, Ill Oct 11, Seeking to avenge his foster sister, Bessie King, aged 19, Mitchell Kiger aged 40 was slain with his own revolver by Charles Foxworthy, residing across the Indiana line. Foxworthy gave himself up and was placed in jail at Covington, Ind. A special grand jury will investigate. The King girl has been working at the Foxworthy home. Recently, Mrs. Foxworthy took her two children and started for North Dakota, but was overtaken at Champaign, where her husband kidnapped the children. Kiger and his brother Ira found Foxworthy in a pasture and attacked him. Foxworthy snatched the revolver which Mitchell Kiger had drawn and shit him dead. Ira Kiger fled.

Covington, Ind Oct 8 – Charles E. Foxworthy, 30 years old, shot & killed Mitchell Kiger, 35 years old at Foxworthy’s home in Fountain County 9 miles north of this city this morning. The shooting was the culmination of trouble between Foxworthy and Kiger caused by the alleged friendship of Kiger, who is a man of family with a girl by the name of King, 20 years old, and a cousin of Foxworthy. Foxworthy, who was placed under arrest by Deputy Sheriff Neham and confined in jail here, states that Kiger came to his home and started the trouble. After a heated argument the two men came to blows and in the mixup Foxworthy says he got possession f the revolver with which Kiger was beating him over the head. He drew the weapon and shot Kiger, killing him almost instantly. Kiger was married but he and his wife had been separated for some time because of the King girl. Dr. JR Hicks of this city will hold a post-mortem tomorrow.

Covington, oct 10 – Charles E. Foxworthy shot and killed Mitchell Kiger at the Foxworthy home, 8 miles north of here today. The shooting is said to have been caused by the insistent attentions of Kiger, who is married to Miss Mary King, a cousin of Foxworthy. Foxworthy is in jail.

Covington Oct 9 – An error in transmission of an item sent to the Star Sunday night made it appear that in the killing of Mitchell Kiger by Charles E. Foxworthy the man killed was guilty of too great a friendship for a young woman in the neighborhood. The facts are the opposite. Foxworthy asserts self-defense in the killing, saying Kiger drew a revolver and in a scuffle for its passion it was accidently discharged. Foxworthy’s wife is said to have left him because of the girl in the case. The parties live southeast of Covington. Deputy Sheriff Mehan place Foxworthy under arrest.
